The current move of the Wailing Women Worldwide is essentially a call to prayer. It is the Lord Himself raising thousands of Spirit-filled women to labor in fervent intercession for the unity of the universal Church and the redemption of nations of the world. The move was not initiated by any man but by the Spirit of the living God. It is a direct outcome of God’s call to His daughters all over the world to stand in the gap for their families, their neighbors, the Church, and all those who are perishing in the world.
The move started in the City of Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria, in May 1998. In that year, God summoned His daughters to weep and lament concerning the spiritual state of the Church and the Nigerian nation. Through prophetic utterance, the Lord specifically asked that women be raised from the 36 States of Nigeria (across denominational boundaries) to intercede, wail, and mourn for the sins of Nigerians. He promised that if women, standing for the nation, came before Him in true repentance, He would avert the impending judgement on the nation and heal the land (2 Chronicles 7:14). This call came at a time in Nigeria’s history when the nation was under the oppressive military dictatorship of General Sani Abacha.
The inaugural meeting, which was an awesome solemn assembly, was held at Cornerstone Foundation, #2B Ozuzu close, D/Line, Port Harcourt, Nigeria. This meeting, which was accompanied with fasting, lasted for two days (May 8 and 9, 1998). From that first mobilization effort, the women have held several solemn assemblies, fasted, and cried to God to stay His hand of judgment and thwart the evil plans of the enemy over Nigeria. In the early stages, teams of Wailing Women from Port Harcourt went from city to city in Nigeria preaching to men and women to repent and escape the coming judgment. Subsequently, the same pattern was adopted to reach other nations of the world where the Spirit of God has specifically directed Wailing Women to pray and avert crisis.
In 1999, the Lord began sending the coordinators of this work on specific assignments to other nations of the world. So far, teams of Wailing Women have carried God's messages to many nations including: Cameroon, The United States of America, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville), Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Australia, Japan, Holland, Norway, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea Bissau, Niger Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Senegal, Namibia, Mali, Mozambique, Malawi, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Jamaica, Grenada, Haiti, Saint Lucia, Canada, Tunisia, China, Trinidad and Tobago, Sao Tome and Principe, Democratic Republic of Congo, Chad, Uganda, The Philippines, Sri Lanka, Israel, Rwanda, Ivory Coast, Benin Republic, Togo, England, Scotland, Germany, Guinea (Conakry), Lesotho, Sudan, Italy, France, Mauritania, Madagascar, Seychelles, Morocco, Spain, Ukraine, Malaysia, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Zambia, Burundi, Ireland, and the work is still spreading.
The reason why God issued the call for the Wailing Women is that death is knocking at our doors. A wave of terror is sweeping through the world and, amid this unprecedented violence; the Lord is intent on taking the Church back to the Old Pathway (Jeremiah 6:16). This is to ensure that “the kingdoms of this world become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ” (Revelation 11:15). The scene is being set for the glorious return of the Lord Jesus Christ, and God is preparing His Army for the last great battle of our time (Revelation 19:19). The emergence of the Wailing Women Worldwide at this point in the history of the world, is a sign that God is rounding up events leading to the judgment. As it is, we are at the climax of history.
